U14 Boys Double Header

Jan-31

U14 Boys Double Header It has been a long wait for the under fourteens but finally they had the chance to put their skills to the test against Swindon Sonics. It would prove to be a great day for the Storm youngsters and although they went home with two last minute defeats Coach Till came away with a positive feel. \'It is exactly what the kids needed a run around against another team of similar ability\'. In both games it came down to which team made the most lay-ups, and when it came down to the crunch the slightly more experienced Swindon team finished better, to claim both games by a couple of points. It was a great day for the players and their families who cheered constantly even during the games when their youngsters weren\'t playing, giving the day a great feel.

Bristol Metropolitan - Champions 2012

Jan-31

Bristol Metropolitan - Champions 2012 Bristol Metropolitan\'s Junior and Senior boys were crowned as Avon Champions 2012 at the Filton WISE facility on January 27th. It was a tough start for the junior team with a tough loss in their first game but Head of PE Mr Brendan Redko and Coach Tracie Colbron made sure that the young players didn\'t get disheartened and they then remained unbeaten for the rest of the day and going into the last game against Beechen Cliff needing to win by more than one, eased past them eventually comfortably, to become the Avon County Champions for 2012. It was a different story for the seniors, one of the main players Gus Campbell was out injured but any nerves were soon removed with a comfortable first win over Winterbourne, and from there they never looked back, claiming the Avon title. It was a great result for Mr Redko and Coach Colbron and continues the fantastic record Bristol Met formerly Whitfield has in Bristol Schools and Avon County, something that will probably never be surpassed.

Storm U16s Surprise UWE

Jan-31

Storm U16s Surprise UWE The women\'s central venue league started up again after the Christmas break with an amazing first game where Storm\'s U16s beat the University of the West of England. The day didn\'t improve for UWE as they also lost to FireStorm and Bristol Uni. The final game of the day had the unbeaten FireStorm face the unbeaten Bristol Uni, but Bristol Uni executed their offences better than FireStorm taking an early lead which they were never to give up, although FireStorm did their best to claw it back. Richard Huish and Bristol Uni face each other next week..

Junior Boys CVL

Jan-31

Junior Boys CVL The junior boys central venue league started back after Christmas in a new format to accommodate all the new players. First on the floor were the U14s, with teams from City Academy, Bristol Brunel and Bristol Met. The format ensured everyone played each other twice and as seems to be the theme of the central venue league games, each result was within a couple of points of each other and some games decided by buzzer beaters. The winning team in round one was Bristol Brunel Coached by Madar Dahir. Second Bristol Met Coached by Gus Camnpbell and holding everyone up in third was City Academy. The under sixteens competition pitted the SeaWorld, Dash, Eagles and Giraffes against each other, with a varying level of skill, from good to raw, but mixed in amongst it all were displays of brilliance and pure skill, dunks, tough shots, and Coach Brock skillfully drinking coffee and operating the scoreboard!! Round One had Seaworld, Eagles and Giraffes tied for first place with Dash not enjoying a slow start. This was soon to turn around as Dash warmed up so did their skill level, and they battled back, but just didnt have enough to steal a final spot from Giraffes and SeaWorld, and Eagles were to also miss out on a final spot against SeaWorld when a buzzer beater was disallowed. The Giraffes proved to much for SeaWorld on this day, but who knows what will happen next week....

A Storm in Sweden

Jan-06

A Storm in Sweden Bristol Storm Junior Girls - Pip Armitage, Heidi Tranter, Emily Dible, Paige Fahy, Katie Tranter and Storm Girls Academy Coach Tracie Colbron celebrated the New Year in style representing the South West of England in the Lundaspelen Basketball tournament in Sweden. It was a week of mixed results, but Coach Colbron was more than pleased with the growth in the players fromt he start to the finish of the tournament which saw them reach the quarter finals. Coach Colbron, \'The development of the players was great to see, and in every game at some point the Storm girls stepped up and showed great leadership and a want and desire to compete. Particularly pleasing was the players ball movement and defence in the quarter final, a game we were unlucky to lose in the end.\' This sort of experience for both the Coach and the players can only be good for Storm\'s development.

Keenan Takes His Chance

Jan-06

Keenan Takes His Chance Bristol Storm U16 Junior Keenan Lawrence took his chance when the England U15 Development Squad came knocking. In December South West APC Coach Mark Crncich put Keenan forward to the U15 England Development squad. Keenan had this to say about the group\'s first session in December; \'I think it went well, I was surprised how well I kept up with them, it proves all the strength and conditioning work the Coaches at Storm get us doing really paid off, I mean I kept up with the guards.\' When asked what the coaches thought of him he said; \'Well they seemed pleased with my work rate, they said I had a lot of work to do in some areas, but liked my positioning and rebounding. The true test of how well I did or didn\'t do will be if I make the first cut.\' Well on the 5th January that question was answered when Keenan received confirmation that he had been invited back. \'I am so happy and pleased, but also I know now I have to do a lot more work to make sure I stay on the England programme, but I am sure the coaches both England and Storm will give me the tools to do that.\' Coach Brock,\'Its fantastic news for Keenan and we owe Coach Crncich a big thanks for putting Keenan forward. With the attitude and approach Keenan has we know he will do the work needed to improve and continue to prove he belongs on the programme.\' Keenan is yet another student of Cotham school that continues to produce basketball talent following people like Josh Rogers and Jos Smart. Devon Pull Out of League

Jan-06

Devon Pull Out of League The women\'s national league season continues to stutter to get started. Now entering 2012, the Devon Eagles have withdrawn from the league leaving just seven teams, and disappointingly for the Storm Women without a game now until the 28th February. \'Its been a very disrupted season, and because of this has seen us struggle to gain the fluency we had last season. We have had spells of good performances but we as yet have not managed a solid forty minutes.\' said Coach Brock. In a season which started with seven strong teams and probably the most competitive South West/ Mids league seen in a while, the teams playing regularly are the ones getting the results, and the most consistent team will prove to be the eventual league winners. \'We have fought hard in all our games and we have taken tough wins, been unlucky in others, and unfortunately also outplayed. The thing though at the moment is the play-offs and the season is still in our hands and if we find ourselves there is no reason we can\'t shock a few people in the play-offs. It all has to happen on the 28th Jan away to UWIC, interested in coming to watch and help bring the victory home let Coach Brock know.
